Anthony Dzamefe’s Caveman Watches is Ghana’s first luxurious watchmaking brand and is determined to break into the international market with watches.
The globally acclaimed Ghanaian watchmaker is also a TedX speaker, a business coach, and the author of The Inside Job, who went from hawking replica watches on the streets of Accra to building his own brand.
The CEO and founder has since been featured by The New York Times, Forbes, and many other publishing houses recognizing him as one of the foremost young entrepreneurs on the African continent.
Early Life and Education:
Dzamefe hails from Ho in the Volta region of Ghana, West Africa, and had his secondary education at the Saint Paul Senior Secondary School in Denu, a town close to Aflao, a town in the Volta Region on Ghana’s border with Togo, where he studied Science.
He later pursued and studied business administration and management at UPSA, Ghana.
Entrepreneurship Journey
Dzamefe’s path to success as an entrepreneur emerged from navigating the challenges of failed businesses.
He started working in a hotel as a sales and marketing officer and later worked as part of the hotel airport pick-up team, but later resigned and started hawking wristwatches on the streets of Accra.
As he continued to grow his watch-selling business, he sought ways to enhance the value he offered and to extend his influence.
Delving into research, he connected directly with original manufacturers in China. Additionally, he understudied roadside watch repairers to provide supplementary services to his customers.
Anthony also worked as an apprentice to a cobbler, mastering the art of working with leather after noticing a demand for high-quality watch straps.
These experiences not only expanded his knowledge but also solidified his reputation as an expert in the field of watches.
His actual entrepreneurial skills started when he produced his first initial batch of 50 watches, a quantity determined by the minimum orders from his suppliers.
This marked the beginning of the original Blue Volta watch, at the price of ¢250 cedis (approximately $16). The idea behind the price was to recover his initial investment, to enable him reinvestment.
This was how Dzamefe started his entrepreneurial journey with TimepieceGh, a brand specializing in the sale of imported branded watches and in January 2019, he expanded his venture by introducing Caveman Watches.
The business has since grown to encompass three showrooms and a factory dedicated to crafting handcrafted timepieces.
Philanthropy
As part of his philanthropic services, Anthony Dzamefe gave a sum of GHc 20,000 (approximately $1300) for the construction of a fully functional borehole for the people of Kuroboi in the Upper West Region in 2021.
