Though some actors who have portrayed the 007 character are speaking out on Amazon MGM studio taking control over the creative side of the “James Bond” franchise, the amount of money spent to close the deal is huge.

This joint venture formed by Amazon MGM Studios with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli is set to house the new OO7 intellectual property rights.

The new venture gives Amazon MGM Studios full creative control of our beloved OO7 franchise; however, all parties will remain co-owners together.

In an official statement, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said,

“Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment.

We are grateful to the late Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman for bringing James Bond to movie theaters around the world, and to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for their unyielding dedication and their role in continuing the legacy of the franchise that is cherished by legions of fans worldwide.

Also, we are honored to continue this treasured heritage and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary OO7 for audiences around the world.”

This was done in hopes of accessing the immensely successful James Bond franchise.

However, despite their intention, Amazon was unable to fully access the 007 franchise due to Broccoli and Wilson’s stake.

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios will put in an additional $1 billion to ensure it has the maximum creative control over the franchise after Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson agree to step back.

It is uncertain what exactly makes up the $1 billion deal at this time.

But it sure adds to Amazon’s goal of becoming an international theatrical distribution arm that they hope to be fully operational by 2026

Before Amazon MGM Studios took over the 007, filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan had initially expressed interest in it.
