Ghanaian entrepreneur and broadcast journalist, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has carried through with her ambition of setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

As of 12 pm on Thursday, December 28, she had sung 108 hours, exceeding the 105-hour record held by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012.

She hopes to do more hours by the close of the day on Thursday, December 28, to maintain a tighter record.

The broadcast journalist and mother of three has been performing hundreds of Ghanaian songs back-to-back since midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2024.

Her huge following and several Ghanaian celebrities have been providing moral support since she started.

The euphoria has been at Akwaaba Village, near the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, where fans and dignitaries from all backgrounds have passed by to commend her resilience.

Into the Future composer, Stonebwoy passed by on Thursday morning to give her thumbs up. Female singers like Wendy Shay, and the gospel trio, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, were among the uncountable well-wishers interceding for Afua Asantewaa as she clocked the 72-hour mark on the singing marathon.

Afua declared her intention early in December after Guinness World Records accepted her application.

Since then, her team of about 86 professionals, including medics and therapists, has been up to the task, providing the needed support on stage.

She has been praised for her exceptional delivery from the onset, and as family and friends prayed, she got the strength to finish.

Having exceeded the existing record, the organisers will look into the technicalities to make the final declaration.
