Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has earned a spot on King’s Music Room, an exclusive playlist curated by King Charles III to celebrate artistes from across the Commonwealth.
The playlist, personally selected by the King, features music from across the Commonwealth, and it includes legends such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and Raye, alongside Davido, showcasing the monarch’s diverse musical tastes.
The playlist featured in King Charles’s recorded Apple Music radio show, named The King’s Music Room, in his office at Buckingham Palace.
The show is named after one of the state rooms at the royal residence, in which a baby Prince Charles was christened in 1948.
The broadcast will feature the monarch sharing anecdotes about meeting some of the artists and reveal his chosen songs that formed the soundtrack to his life.
The King also discusses the impact music has had on him, including how it helps spark happy memories and provide comfort in sad times.
Meanwhile, Davido’s feature marks a significant moment for African music, further cementing its place in global pop culture and highlighting the growing recognition of Afrobeats on the world stage.
In a statement released by the palace on Friday, it stated that
King Charles III shared his inspiration behind the playlist: “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. It has a remarkable ability to bring back happy memories, provide confidence in times of sadness, and transport us to distant places.
The King’s Music Room playlist will be available exclusively on Apple Music in honour of Commonwealth Day 2025, set for March 11.
While Davido’s specific song choice remains undisclosed, fans are eagerly awaiting the official release.
