Actor Bill Cobbs Dies At 90; Here’s His Net Worth and Career Span

Veteran Hollywood actor Bill Cobbs died on Tuesday, June 25, a few days after celebrating his 90th birthday.

His brother, Thomas, broke the news on social media but did not disclose the cause of the actor’s death.

The social media post announcing his passing read: “We are saddened to share the passing of Bill Cobbs. On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California.

A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather, and friend. Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones.”

The statement continued:

“As a family, we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

A close look at Bill Cobbs’s acting career

He had a successful career spanning several decades, earning approximately 200 acting credits. 

Interestingly, Cobbs worked as an Air Force radar technician for eight years before transitioning to acting.

The actor began his career in show business somewhat late, at the age of 36, when he upped and left for New York in search of Hollywood fame in 1970.

However, it wasn’t until four years later that Bill Cobbs made his film debut in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three playing a little role as a man on a platform.

He co-starred with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise in Martin Scorcese’s 1986 film The Color of Money.

Cobbs also played Judge Franklin in Cher and Liam Neeson’s film Suspect the following year. 

Bill Cobbs has appeared in several television shows, including The Equalizer, Sesame Street, L.A. Law, and Spenser: For Hire.

He was also a regular on the Emmy-nominated comedy-sports shows, The Slap Maxwell Journey and Homeroom.

With nearly 50 years of experience, the late actor’s career has encompassed a wide range of genres, including crime, action, drama, fantasy, and comedy.

Among his most memorable roles were Devany in The Bodyguard, Master Tinker in Oz the Great and Powerful, Louisiana Slim in The Hitter, the old Zachary Lamb in Demolition Man, and Reginald in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

Cobbs’ acting abilities have earned him accolades and recognition throughout his career.

He won Best Actor in a Narrative Feature at the 2006 Trenton Film Festival for his performance in The Final Patient.

In 2019, he was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy for his role as Mr. Hendrickson in Dino Dana, although he did not win until a year later.

Bill Cobbs has kept his personal life out of the public spotlight.
