51-year-old actor and comedian, Marlon Wayans has opened up about the unexpected reason he has never tied the knot.

Wayans told The New York Times that he promised to prioritize his late mother Elvira Wayans before all other women, and he followed through on it.

He expressed concern that his potential wife might make his mother feel slighted. The comedian discussed his mother’s death in 2020, at the age of 81.

“My mother’s death broke me. It shattered me into a million pieces because that was my girl,”  he explained. “I never married because I didn’t want to make my mother jealous of a lady. “I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman.”

When asked to affirm that his mother was the reason he never married, Marlon Wayans said “absolutely,” adding that she was “one of five reasons.” “Mom was very needy,” he explained. “On her deathbed, I told my mother, ‘I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.'” Those were my final words. I answered, ‘Take that to heaven with you.'”

However, Marlon Wayans and former longtime partner Angelica Zackery have two children, Kai and Shawn.

In March, the White Chicks actor announced to The Shade Room that he had also welcomed a daughter, who is now one year old.

In 2020, Marlon Wayans showed the love he has for his mother again by paying tribute to her on what would have been her 82nd birthday.

“You will always be my first love, happy bday woman. Baby boy misses you, ” he wrote.

The comedian’s parents, Elvira and Howell, have ten children, many of whom are entertainers. Marlon Wayans, who starred in In Living Color and The Wayans Bros., is the youngest of his siblings.

The actor’s father, Howell Wayans, also died last year at the age of 86.
