One of the most popular topics at the moment in all creative mediums—not just music—is artificial intelligence.
Musicians have been advocating for artificial intelligence (AI) rules in the music business in recent years.
The No Artificial Intelligence Fake Replicas and Unauthorized Duplications Act (also known as the No AI Fraud Act), a bipartisan bill that seeks to control AI deepfakes and AI cloning of both voice and likeness, garnered support from a number of artistes in February 2024, including Mary J. Blige, Cardi B, 21 Savage, and others.
Artistes fear that AI platforms will take their likeness and replicate it without giving them credit. A few prominent occurrences involving artificial intelligence have already occurred.
A Drake and The Weeknd song that was artificially created was declared eligible for a Grammy Award last year. A week later, they reversed the decision due to the immediate controversy surrounding it.
The topic of future artificial intelligence regulation was the subject of a congressional hearing recently. Attending the session where she spoke in support of regulating AI’s inevitable future was R&B sensation FKA Twigs.
She posted about the incident on Instagram after giving her testimony. “I testified before Congress today, senators Coons, Tillis, Blackburn, Hirono, Klobuchar, Welch, and Blumenthal, emphasizing the need for legislation to safeguard intellectual property, artists’ voices and likenesses, and artwork against the exploitation of deepfakes and artificial intelligence.
“As an artiste, I am enthusiastic about experimenting with new technologies to enhance my work and discover new avenues for self-expression and fan interaction. Nevertheless, in this era of rapid technological advancement, it is crucial to establish laws that guarantee the ownership of an artist’s likeness remains with the artist,” the caption stated.
