The Eminado hitmaker had, since January, been teasing the new production, which she said had taken two years to complete. She described the film as one of her “most adventurous and fulfilling” works.
In an interview on ‘Fresh Out Loud’ on MTV recently, she explained that acting had always been her ‘first love” before she decided to start music.
As Executive Director of the movie, she noted that acting and directing in the same production were fulfilling and that she had to take two weeks of acting classes to be able to fit into her role in the movie.
The film has the title of her second extended play, (EP) Water & Garri, released in August 2021, which blends Afrobeat with soulful R&B.
Tiwa Savage plays the lead role in the film shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, and features several supporting actors and is directed by Meji Alabi. The film tells the story of a US-based fashion designer who returns home to confront her past guilt.
“I feel blessed and honoured not only be making my debut as a lead actor, but to have also executively produced this film. I honestly can’t wait to take you guys along with me on this next phase of my life and art…I’m just getting started,” she indicated in a Facebook post in January this year.
