Shining Nigerian Afrobeats star, Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan, known professionally as Fireboy DML, has shared his thoughts about fame.

During an interview with popular media personality, Chude Jideonwu, the Bandana crooner described fame as a “fucked up spirit” saying the same thing about money, and sex as well.

“These three things can affect your thoughts.  They can manipulate you into doing things that ordinarily you wouldn’t have done,” the YAWA hitmaker noted.

This perspective of Fireboy DML comes at a time when most celebrities are surrounded by controversies – drugs, infidelity, gang violence, and baby mama dramas just to mention a few.

The 2022 Headies Award for Afrobeats Single of the Year winner further added that the errors of famous people were always on display for the viewing pleasure of the public. It is a popular belief that unlike “ordinary Joes”, celebrities are not given room to correct their mistakes.

“Omo, there are some mistakes that are very costly and I do not want to make costly mistakes,” The Peru singer opined.

Fireboy DML expressed how cautious he was about the power of fame. With the power to make you feel like a god, Fireboy does not want to fall victim to the manipulative nature of fame.

One celebrity describes how fame defines a person to an extent, puffing him up and shrinking him down at the same time.  More often than not, celebrities lose their lives to drug addiction, accidents, alienation, or trying to break away or expose the dark side of the stardom.

Recently, one of such untimely deaths, that of Peace and Beast hitmaker, MohBad has raised a lot of questions about the security and protection of celebrities. The ongoing investigation has Naira Marley of Marlian Records and Sam Larry in custody.

Fireboy DML’s concern now is keeping his fame for a long time and being relevant as an Afrobeats artiste.

In his final words during the interview, the Bandana hitmaker said, “I have the pressure of beating my old record because I want to prove that I’m not one hitmaker.”

The 27-year-old artiste, signed to YBNL Nation, has produced great albums like Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, Apollo and Frozen.
