Fashion designer and businesswoman Tina Knowles has lashed out at all the ‘haters’ who spoke against her daughter Beyoncé’s claim to country music, while defending the ‘Halo’ singer.

According to Beyoncé‘s mother, their family has celebrated cowboy culture since they grew up in Texas.

“We have always celebrated cowboy culture growing up in Texas. We also always understood that it was not just about it belonging to white culture only. In Texas, there is a huge Black cowboy culture. Why do you think that my kids have integrated it into their fashion and art since the beginning?” Tina Knowles posted on her Instagram page.

“When people ask why is Beyoncé wearing cowboy hats? It’s really funny, I actually laugh because it’s been there since she was a kid. We went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion… It was a part of our culture growing up,” Tina Knowles added in a caption to a video collection of country-themed Beyoncé picture sessions.

During the 2024 Super Bowl, Beyoncé threw down the disco balls and donned a cowboy hat to kick off her new musical period. In an eye-catching Verizon commercial, soundtracked by Renaissance era closer My House, the superstar proclaimed, “They ready, drop the new music.”

Shortly after, two country tunes, Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages, debuted on streaming platforms, and a Paris, Texas-inspired teaser emerged on Queen Bey’s Instagram and website.

Ms. Tina’s comment also mentioned that her other renowned daughter, Grammy-winning Solange, has included cowboy culture in her art.

“Solange did a whole brilliant album and project based on Black cowboy culture,” she stated.
