Two top songs by American singer and record producer The Weeknd, have broken a new record on Spotify. The songs Blinding Lights and Starboy are said to have both exceeded three billion streams on the platform.

The achievement has reportedly crowned the singer as the first artiste to have two songs exceed the three billion mark on the streaming platform.

According to a monitoring outlet not affiliated with Spotify, Blinding Lights has exceeded four billion streams, while Starboy is pegged at three billion.

Nonetheless, the official video released for Blinding Lights about four years ago has gathered nearly 800 million YouTube views. The video for Starboy, on the other hand, had also reached 39 million views as of February 1, 2023.

These figures would be an extra achievement for the I Can’t Feel My Face hitmaker, who has four Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy Award, twenty Billboard Music Awards, six American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and twenty-two Juno Awards.

Blinding Lights was released on November 29, 2019, through XO and Republic Records, as the second single from The Weeknd’s fourth studio album called After Hours, which was made in 2020.

Records indicate that the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four non-consecutive weeks and went on to set new records as the song with the most weeks spent in the top five and top ten.

Blinding Lights eventually became the record for the longest-charting song on the Hot 100 of all time, spending 90 weeks on the chart. It was named the number-one song of all time in Billboard Hot 100 history in 2021.

Similarly, Starboy was one of the singles off the Weeknd’s third studio album, released on November 25, 2016, through XO and Republic Records.  The album and its singles received positive reviews and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.

The album was a commercial success and was certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2022.
