Afrobeats Queen, Tiwa Savage, will release her first feature film sometime this year. The film titled Water and Gari, according to the singer, will be shown in over 240 countries around the world.

The Eminado composer, who is also an actress, is excited about the project, which she said took two years to produce.

“This has been over two years in the making, and I must say this is probably one of the most adventurous, fulfilling things I’ve done. I feel blessed and honoured not only be making my debut as a lead actor, but to have also executively produced this film. I honestly can’t wait to take you guys along with me on this next phase of my life and art…I’m just getting started,” she indicated in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The film has the title of her second extended play, (EP) Water & Garri, released in August 2021, which blends Afrobeat with soulful R&B.

In March 2022, she announced the Water & Garri North American Tour, supporting the EP.  The tour commenced in Brooklyn, New York, on May 15, 2022, and ended in Toronto on June 19, 2022.

In February 2023, Tiwa said she was co-producing the Water and Garri film, directed by Meji Alabi. Tiwa Savage plays the lead role in the film shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, and features several supporting actors.

It tells the story of a US-based fashion designer who returns home to confront her past guilt. Her followers have welcomed the announcement, saying they cannot wait to see the production.

The celebrated performer has made significant contributions to African music and continues to churn out hit songs that resonate well with her huge following worldwide.

At 43, she has been impressed with her impact on the growth of the music industry, describing her input as a “blessing” when she spoke to Billboard in October.

Tiwa Savage, who was on vacation sometime in December, caused a stir online with her colourful bikini shots at a beach in the United States. Her personality, musical excellence, and composure throughout the years have been an inspiration to many youths.
