Given that Foxy Brown is one of Nicki Minaj’s main inspirations, it was expected that the Brooklyn rapper would respond politely when Nicki broke one of her Billboard chart records.
On Sunday night, Brown, via Instagram, congratulated Nicki Minaj on breaking her record by becoming the female rapper with the most No.1 albums on the Billboard 200.
The success of her latest project, Pink Friday 2, which was released as her third album, helped the Anaconda crooner accomplish the feat.
Chart data reports state that in the project’s first week of sales both Minaj’s second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and its predecessor, her debut studio album, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
Brown wrote, “Umm, sir!” on her Instagram Story to express her joy.
She added, “Only Nic could surpass the king’s record,” before hinting at a possible resurgence with the “3rd #1 record dropping in 2024”. Brown expressed her love for Nicki by calling her her “twin.”
“Hey, congrats,” she wrote. “But the 26-year record is crazy. Are you trying to tell me that nobody butted that sh*t while I was away? Twin needed to raise the bar once more.”
As Foxy was “ahead of her time” and “the most influential female rapper to me,” Nicki Minaj has showered Foxy with praise over the years. A decade after she had collaborated with Brown on her 2008 mixtape Sucka Free—notably the first time Nicki had ever shared a song with a female rapper—she ‘spit’ over a Foxy beat.
Trifecta, Nicki’s #1 album, wasn’t the only record that Pink Friday 2 broke. The project’s first-week sales figures (228,000 equivalent album units) also set records for the most sales of any female rapper in the 2020s and the highest total for a female hip-hop/R&B album in 2023.
Pink Friday 2 has sold 25,000 vinyl copies, making it the most successful vinyl album by a female rapper since the data analytics company Luminate started keeping track of these numbers in 1991.
Since the album’s release, Brown has given Nicki praise on multiple occasions. She discussed their relationship last week at a birthday celebration as well.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SALT & PEPA, MY FAVORITE AUNTIE, BABY C’S TRUE LIFE LIL’ SISTER, RIDER, THERAPIST, SPARRING PARTNER, VOICE OF REASON “[heart emoji],” she posted on social media. “I am aware of the insane genius you dug deep to deliver this masterpiece! [Emoji of fire] MOMMY AND BODIED THAT SH*T EVERYWHERE!”
On December 8, Nicki released Pink Friday 2, which included collaborations with J. Cole, Monica, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, and Keyshia Cole, among others.
She gained notoriety more recently when she declined to have her verse on Kanye West’s next album, Vultures, cleared.
