Throughout the 1990s, he continued to make appearances in some films and series, but his breakthrough performance came in the lead role of Detective Frank Pembleton on the popular NBC series, Homicide: Life on the Street, which ran from 1993 to 1998. For his portrayal of that character over 100 episodes, Braugher was honored with a 1998 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

He also acted in notable films, including City of Angels, Primal Fear, and Get On The Bus directed by Spike Lee. He gained popularity recently for his portrayal of the straight-laced, gay police captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Regretfully, Braugher passed away before completing his most recent role in The Residence on Netflix.
