Burna Boy is on fire, and it seems everything he does brings happiness to people. The Nigerian singer’s buzz has infected women at the famous Makola Market in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The Ghanaian traders recently joined a social media challenge, dancing to Burna Boy’s City Boys, one of the singles on his chart-topping I Told Them album. The video, initiated by a dancer and TikToker known as Official Starter, amassed over 3.7 million views on TikTok in about two weeks.

The market women might have danced to the Last Last hitmaker’s song for fun – they have many other dance videos based on themes from other artistes – but it caught the singer’s attention.

Burna Boy moves to celebrate Makola market women

Touched by what he saw in the viral video, Burna Boy swiftly made efforts to celebrate the women who had shown him so much love. The Afrobeats star tasked his team to secure a billboard in the market to appreciate the traders.

A video on Burna Boy’s Instagram page shows the processes through which he went to get the gigantic billboard mounted. From the moment he saw the women’s dance video, his reaction online, the directive to his team, to when the signpost was mounted were all captured.

On the billboard was a photo from the original dance video of the market women with an inscription of Burna Boy’s appreciation to them. Seeing themselves on the billboard, the market women looked excited as some of their colleague traders joined in the fun.

Sharing the video, Burna Boy revealed how the earlier video had made him happy.

You all made my day, I hope I made yours ❤️‍🔥 #ITOLDTHEM

Love,

Damini.

Coming a few weeks after the singer downplayed the importance of Afrobeats, describing the genre as full of nothing, the joy of the market women in the video should give him a rethink. Afrobeats, just like all other forms of music, has something that makes people happy regardless of the lyrical content.

Burna Boy and Fireboy DML win BMI Awards

Meanwhile, two of Afrobeats’ most acclaimed stars, Burna Boy and Fireboy DML, were named among the winners at the 2023 BMI London Awards.

The Nigerian stars received the ‘Most Performed Work of the Year’ awards presented to over 20 songs.

The award comes after Last Last hitmaker was announced as headliner for the 2023 AfroNation festival scheduled for December in his home country of Nigeria.
