Ever since the Afrobeats genre made waves on the global music scene, it has influenced and brought out numerous stars who have risen from being national treasures to becoming global icons. One such international sensation is Nigerian Afrobeats icon, Asake.

Known in real life as Ahmed Ololade, Asake started his professional music career in 2015 as a backup singer for the renowned skit-maker and entertainer, Broda Shaggi. The duo later teamed up in 2019 and dropped a masterpiece dubbed Star.

The Lonely at the Top hit singer rose to prominence in 2020 after his freestyle titled Lady went viral, eliciting a tremendous response from several prominent social media influencers such as Broda Shaggi, Sydney Talker, NastyBlaq, and others, which gained him the recognition he needed.

The 2023 AFRIMA Breakout Artiste Of The Year has since established himself as one of the best new artistes on the Afrobeats scene. This feat was achieved through his innovative street-pop sound that fuses choir-like crowded backing vocals with traditional Nigerian melodies and Amapiano rhythms.

The  YBNL Nation signee made his debut in the music scene in 2022 and got his big break a year after, making an appearance on Rolling Stone’s Best Afropop Songs list with Sungba (Remix), Joha, and the show-stealing feature on Fireboy DML’s Bandana.

The Afrobeats icon famed as “Mr. Money”, became the first African artiste to chart on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart with a debut album, and he is the first African act to achieve a sold-out crowd at the prestigious 19,000 sitting capacity Barclays Center in the United States.

Asake is among the Afrobeats artistes to surpass 6 million monthly streams on web music player, Audiomack.

The 28-year-old has further emphasized his confidence in himself and being loyal to his identity making his mark as one of the fastest-rising artistes in the Nigerian music scene and becoming the first new-generation Afrobeats/Afrofusion artiste to sell out the O2 Arena

The Afrobeat genre can be felt from Lagos to Accra, Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. This genre has given rise to many stars now-turned global icons including the likes of Nigeria’s Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage, among others.

It is safe to say that the amazing story of Lonely at the Top crooner through Afrobeats has influenced him beyond just his music, and it has created a new culture of entertainment positioning him as one of the most sought-after Afrobeats musicians in the world today.
