The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is investigating Jay-Z’s Roc Nation School of Music at Long Island University (LIU) in Brooklyn.

The Roc Nation School of Music was created in 2020 to offer degree programs in various subjects, such as vocal performance, sports management, and music production, to aspiring musicians and industry professionals.

The investigation stems from students reporting some unforeseen financial constraints from their educational experience.

Originally marketed as a means of graduating debt-free, the Roc Nation School of Music was created and advertised at the time with the promise of “Hope” scholarships, which were intended for those with the greatest financial need.

But in 2023, the institution changed the wording of this award from “debt-free education” to “tuition-free education” on its website.

It is alleged that students were left with unforeseen debts ranging from $5,000 to $39,000, prompting the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) to launch an investigation on May 5.

The DCWP spokesperson, Michael Lanza, said:

“While we can’t discuss details of ongoing investigations, we urge students who feel they’ve been harmed by Roc Nation LIU’s conduct to reach out to us.”

Students are encouraged to use the city’s consumer protection procedures to lodge complaints.

Meanwhile, LIU has claimed that over 25% of each class at Roc Nation School was awarded a Hope Scholarship.

These new accusations are just a few surrounding the Roc Nation boss Jay-Z, who has found himself dealing with one accusation after another.

As usual, social media users have a lot to say. Below are what X users are saying.
