JAY-Z says a false rape accusation made against him by an anonymous woman has cost him almost $200 million in business losses.
The rapper and businessman updated his defamation lawsuit against the woman and her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, claiming the case caused major damage to his reputation and finances. He says several deals were cancelled as a result of the public allegations.
Court documents say JAY-Z lost contracts in the sports and entertainment industry that could have brought in at least $20 million. His team says the total amount would have been much higher if the deals had gone through.

The Roc Nation founder also says he was denied a $55 million credit line, while Roc Nation itself was rejected for a $115 million loan.
He blames the denials on the fallout from the rape allegation, which made headlines when the lawsuit was first filed.
In the new filing, JAY-Z accuses Buzbee of trying to damage his image. He says Buzbee had his staff change online information to boost his own reputation while hurting JAY-Z’s and Roc Nation’s public standing.

“Eventually, the relentless pressure that Mr. Carter and his associates placed upon Doe became too much for her.
On February 4, 2025, an agreement to resolve the litigation was reached between Doe and Mr. Carter, through their attorneys, which included the voluntary dismissal of the SDNY Action,” the filling said.
The documents also mention that some of Roc Nation’s business partners felt pressure from the media and were forced to respond publicly about whether they would continue working with the company.
The woman had previously filed a lawsuit claiming that JAY-Z and Diddy raped her when she was 13. She later dropped the case after several problems were found in her story.

After that, JAY-Z filed a defamation suit against her and Buzbee, saying the claims were false and harmful.
Now, the woman wants the defamation case thrown out. She argues that her claims were made in legal documents, which are protected by law. She also says a TV interview she gave was based only on what was written in the court papers.
Buzbee has also asked the court to dismiss the case, saying there was already a settlement between both sides. But JAY-Z’s legal team denies that. They say no agreement was made and that the original case was false and had to be dropped quickly.
