Lil Durk is staying positive in jail as he waits for his upcoming trial in a murder-for-hire case.

The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, called into a livestream over the weekend to give an update on how he’s doing.

He said he has been focused on his health and personal growth. He also shared that he has been learning Arabic with help from other inmates who speak the language.

According to him, he’s using the time to better himself mentally and spiritually while staying connected to his goals.

“I’ve just been focused on life, my family and stuff like that. I’m trying to learn to speak Arabic in here. It’s a couple of guys in here that know how to speak Arabic fluently. So I’m just learning the different words and tightening up my Arabic. Just getting my knowledge together,” the rapper said.

Durk is currently fighting accusations that he was involved in a failed attempt on Quando Rondo’s life. Prosecutors are trying to use his lyrics as proof of his involvement, but his legal team is arguing the opposite.

They say the lyrics from a song he featured on were written before the shooting and do not relate to the case.

His lawyers also claim that prosecutors misled the grand jury that indicted him. They say the government presented lyrics out of context and used them to build a false narrative. Because of this, they are asking the court to dismiss the indictment completely.

Durk’s legal team has also asked the court to reconsider his detention. A judge has agreed to hold a hearing on May 8 to decide whether he can be released before the trial begins. To support the request, they’ve offered a new bail package.

The package includes $1 million in cash, $900,000 in real estate, and another $150,000 from an associate. Durk also agreed to 24-hour private security and electronic monitoring if released.

His team says this shows he is not a flight risk and is willing to cooperate fully with the court.
