It seems Angel Reese has a way of silencing her haters.
Although she once claimed to not be able to afford her rent and lifestyle with her WNBA salary, a statement that, of course, got a lot of social media rants in an October 2024 IG Live session.
During the live stream, she told her viewers, “Hating pays their bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all.
I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay. Let me do the math real quick. I don’t even know my [WNBA] salary. $74,000?”
After her friend crunched some numbers and confirmed Reese’s salary doesn’t cover her $8,000 rent, the LSU alum sarcastically exclaimed,
“I’m living above my means!” People ran with the interaction and started debating about how Reese “mishandles” her finances.
Her statement got many people talking, including Cam’ron, who even offered his critiques and advice during an episode of It Is What It Is.
However, Reese ended the conversation for good with her latest move.
The WNBA athlete shared she is now officially a homeowner at the age of 22.
Coupled with her home-buying announcement, she also reminded people she was able to retire her mother, closing the chapter on the ongoing debates surrounding her financial status over the last year.
She celebrated the accomplishment by sharing a photo on Instagram of her standing in her new kitchen.
“Retired my momma, became a homeowner, all at 22. So blessed,” read the caption. “Knocked off 2 BIG things off my vision board in the first 4 months of the new year!”
The photo posted to her X account as well, where she called back to the past criticism she’s received and emphasized her response to each narrative painted about her.
“They said, ‘She needs to cover up,’ so I went cover on VOGUE. They said, ‘She can’t afford her rent,’ so I went & bought a house. Thank yaaaa,” she typed.
In addition to launching her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, Angel Reese has a long list of lucrative sponsorship ties with companies including McDonald’s, Reebok, and Reese’s Puffs.
