After a former colleague sued Kevin Liles for rape earlier this year, he became embroiled in a flurry of sexual assault litigation.

Now, the 57-year-old businessman is attempting to have the lawsuit dismissed on a legal technicality.

According to his former employee, an executive assistant to the general manager of Def Jam, he started harassing her around 2000.

He allegedly raped her in 2002 after forcing himself on top of her, even though she denied his advances. She formally filed a lawsuit in February of this year, but Liles thinks he has a compelling defense.

According to reports, he has asked for permission to file a motion to dismiss the lawsuit because he believes the alleged crime has passed its statute of limitations.

In New York, where the lawsuit was filed, the statute of limitations is 10 years for third-degree rape, 20 years for second-degree rape, and nonexistent for first-degree rape. He also asserts that the anonymous former employee has not supplied enough information for the lawsuit to proceed and that the accusations are “entirely false.”

The complaint also names Def Jam and Universal Music Group as defendants. In addition to “knowing or should have known” about Liles’ inclination to commit crimes, the claimed victim also asserts that they allowed him to do so.

“I absolutely deny the outrageous claims reported in the press this evening, I wish I could share a more detailed response to this slander, but this is the first I’ve heard of this claim and the anonymous accuser’s attorney shared the lawsuit with gossip influencers and media outlets before it was even posted by the court, so my attorneys and I have not seen the actual lawsuit,” Liles stated.
