Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page are set to star in an upcoming Universal Pictures film, Italianna.

The film based on an original idea by Ryan Engle and Kristin Engle, will be directed by Kat Coiro.

The film’s plot details are being kept under wraps, but scanty information available online suggests the movie will be a romantic comedy.

Will Packer Productions will produce the film through Will Packer and Johanna Byer, and this is the company’s first-look deal with Universal Pictures.

Senior EVP Erik Baiers and director of development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal Pictures studio, while Alvie Hurtado will oversee the project for Will Packer Productions.

Regé-Jean Page is known for his role in the first series of Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton.

His breakthrough performance in Bridgerton earned him Emmy and SAG award nominations and an NAACP Image Award accolade.

Page also landed choice roles in Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man.

In a most recent project, he starred in Black Bag and is also said to star in and produce the upcoming film adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo from Department M.

His co-star Halle Bailey is a five-time Grammy nominee who exploded onto the Hollywood scene by starring as Ariel in Disney’s live-action film The Little Mermaid and the 2023 musical reimagining of The Color Purple.

Recently, she got a shot as a co-lead in Golden, Pharrell Williams, and Michel Gondry’s musical for Universal, which was shuttered in post-production.

Halle Bailey, Coiro, Engle, and Packer are all represented by CAA for this upcoming production.

Regé-Jean Page is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Shelter PR, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
