Amazon MGM is working on a Tiger Woods biopic, and Higher Ground Media, the production company of Barack and Michelle Obama, is in talks to do it.
The biographical drama will follow the ascent of the kid prodigy who became a golf hero.
It is based on Kevin Cook’s book, “The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played.”
The movie is centred on Woods’ achievement of winning four major titles in a row, called the “Tiger Slam,” drawing inspiration from the book’s title.
Woods became one of the most well-known golfers of all time after going pro in 1996 at the age of 20.
In addition to his 82 PGA Tour triumphs, he has won 15 major championships.
His life off the green, though rife with drama, reportedly won’t be depicted in the film. In 2009, Woods fell from grace after numerous extramarital affairs came to light.
Companies like Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, and General Motors terminated their sponsorship agreements with Woods as a result of his cheating accusations.
Despite suffering several limb injuries, he survived a serious vehicle collision in 2021 after being arrested in 2017 for driving under the influence.
After a break from golf, Tiger returned and won the 2019 Masters, his first major event in eleven years.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first documentary about Tiger Woods; in 2021, HBO debuted a two-part series, “Tiger,” which was a chronicle of Woods’ story.
This series was based on Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian’s 2018 book Tiger Woods. The documentary explored the star athlete’s ascent, decline, and comeback in the golf industry.
Although the Woods biopic’s release date is unknown.
The announcement coincides with Amazon MGM’s reaffirmation of its intention to boost its cinematic spending.
Amazon has stated that between 12 to 14 of its films will be released in theatres in 2026.
