The first part of 2025 seems to be great for Tems and other African female artists such as Tyla and Ayre Starz.
This past week, Tems went from winning a Grammy to being a partner in the San Diego FC Major League Soccer (MLS) team.
Making her just one of the few African artists to own a stake in an international sports franchise.
Also according to Spotify, she became the first African female artist to hit one billion streams on Spotify with Future’s Wait For U also featuring Drake.
This week, Nigeria’s superstar Tems made an unforgettable return to the news for another spectacular performance as she sang lively to unveil the Aston Martin at a Formula 1 special launch event at The O2 Arena in London.
The Grammy Award-winning singer introduced Aston Martin’s new racing green challenger with her 2022 track ‘Higher‘ from her 2020 debut EP, ‘For Broken Ears.’
Tems’s ‘Higher‘ gained global recognition in 2022 when it was sampled in Drake and Future’s Grammy-winning hit ‘Wait For U.’
Her live performance was with a live band of violinists, trumpeters, and saxophonists. Even though the performance was a short yet soulful rendition of ‘Higher’ as Aston Martin’s new race car made its way onto the stage in a slow reveal.
She was later joined by Aston Martin teammates Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso.
Formula 1’s special 2025 livery launch also saw all ten Formula 1 teams unveiling their new designs ahead of the upcoming season.
Among the team was Ferrari, who made waves as newly signed driver Lewis Hamilton took to the stage alongside teammate Charles Leclerc, introducing the team’s latest challenger to the world.
