Clifford Smith, better known as Method Man, has denied assaulting the ex-boyfriend of his 28-year-old daughter, Cheyenne Smith over a decade ago.

The rapper allegedly punched the man seven times at a Crunch Fitness in Staten Island, but has denied the accusation.

As reported by the New York Post on Thursday, January 16, 2025, Method Man was accused of recently punching 28-year-old Patrick Sokoya several times “with a closed fist” at a Crunch Fitness location in Staten Island. Sources say that Sokoya felt dizzy after allegedly being punched but refused medical attention at the scene.

Shortly after the allegations surfaced, a rep for the Wu-Tang Clan member denied that Method Man was involved. “Mr. Smith categorically denies the allegations as reported and has not been the subject of an arrest by any law enforcement agency,” the rep stated. The NYPD also confirmed to Billboard that there wasn’t an arrest report.

Billboard further reports that the actor and rapper previously encountered legal issues, entering a guilty plea to tax evasion charges in 2010 after he owed over $106,000 after failing to file tax returns from 2004 to 2007.

The total debut accrued was $32,799. Although Method immediately sent a $40,000 restitution payment, the previous year, the rapper was arrested for nonpayment of personal income taxes and state taxes.
