Popular Nigerian musician Asake, known for his Lonely At The Top song, has reached an impressive 100 million streams on Audiomack (Africa), the streaming platforms announced on Thursday.
He is said to be the first artiste to have reached this milestone on the music streaming platform. The Afrobeats hit song released in July, gained lots of attention this year and is part of his Work of Art project.
Asake’s project, Mr. Money With The Vibe, released in September 2022, also accumulated over 500 million hits on Audiomack alone.
While at it, Rema and Selena Gomez’s Calm Down has also reached 700 million streams on YouTube as of November 7, 2023.
Ahmed Ololade Asake rose to fame in 2020 with a series of upbeat singles that combined Afrobeats with Amapiano. The 28-year-old was raised in the state of Lagos, where he studied Theatre And Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University.
His career took off in 2020 with the release of singles, Lady and Mr. Money, which were endorsed by social media influencers. The popularity of these songs got him signed to YBNL record label and Empire Distribution in 2022.
His debut Extended Play (EP) titled Ololade Asake, later that year featured the track Sungba, the song’s remix featuring Burna Boy reached No. 7 on the US Afrobeats Songs chart.
The success of these tunes led to the release of the singles Peace Be Unto You and Terminator, which peaked at No. 172 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 82 respectively on the UK Singles Chart.
Mr. Money With The Vibe followed in 2022 and topped the Nigerian charts while breaking streaming records on a number of platforms.
The Work of Art album made it into the Top 5 of Billboard’s World Albums Chart and reached No. 66 on the Billboard 200, with singles like Yoga, 2:30, and “Amapiano” featuring Olamide.
Rema’s Calm Down music video with Selena Gomez continues to perform magic. The single was released in February 2022 as one of the lead singles off Rema’s debut album, Calm Down.
The single topped charts in North Africa, India, and the Middle East which earned Rema a Guinness world record. The single also reached a Nigerian peak position of No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart while also charting in multiple European countries.
Calm Down recently won the maiden Afrobeats category at the 2023 MTV EMAs and has been nominated for the Billboard Awards scheduled for November 19, 2023.
