Many personalities are eyeing accolades at this year’s National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP), and some names have popped up.

The nominees, announced Tuesday, include Cynthia Erivo, Keke Palmer, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Hart, and Shannon Sharpe, who are competing for Entertainer of the Year.

Superstar GloRilla has six nominations in the music recording categories, while Kendrick Lamar and Usher follow with four each.

The 56th annual awards will air on Saturday, February 22, 2025, on BET and CBS at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

This year’s edition is themed: “Our Stories, Our Culture, Our Excellence.” In the motion picture category, The Piano Lesson has 14 nominations, while The Book of Clarence has six. Netflix also has 64 nominations in all categories.

Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of the NAACP highlighted his expectations for the program.

“We look forward to celebrating the brilliance of Black talent and creativity whose stories shape culture, ignite change, and inspire generations.”

“Through film, music, literature, and more, their voices weave a rich tapestry that honors our heritage, celebrates our identity, and proves that storytelling is a powerful force for driving true progress,” he said.

“BET is proud to continue our long-standing partnership with the NAACP to celebrate Black excellence in all forms.

“Together, we shine a light on the stories, voices, and artistry that shape culture and drive progress,” Scott Mills, President and CEO of BET Media Group, added.

Fans have been asked to vote until the deadline at midnight on February 7, 2025.

In March last year, Nigerian star Tems, Me & U, was crowned Outstanding International Song.

She also became the first Nigerian artist to be honored at the Billboard Women in Music event, which celebrates outstanding women who continue to inspire generations in the industry that year.
