Top singer SZA has contemplated switching genres and taking up a charitable mission after her recording contract ends.
It is not clear when her existing agreement will end, but she hopes to do some music for children before it expires.
“To fulfill my last 2 album requirements, I think I just wanna make peaceful children’s music and get outta here…Then go be a farmer and donate the produce to underserved communities,” she wrote on X.
SZA’s announcement follows the release of her long-anticipated album SOS Deluxe: Lana. The 38-track project has 14 new songs, 23 original songs from SOS, and her previously released Saturn.
In December, she said updated mixes and new songs would be added to the album in January 6, 2025.
This year, SZA will embark on the Grand National Tour with Kendrick Lamar in April in Minneapolis. Their concerts throughout the U.S., according to sources, will last two months before wrapping up in Washington, D.C., in June.
In August 2024, the pop star reflected on the lyrics of her hit single Kill Bill, which she thought was a little “over the top.”
She stated that though she may have sought to introduce some humor in her composition, parts of the soulful rhythm were not too “polished.”
A section of the somewhat heartbreaking song says: “… Hate to see you happy if I’m not the one driving…I just want you; if I can’t have you, no one should. I might kill my ex…Not the best idea…His girlfriend is next.”
Though SZA said the lyrics must not be taken literally, she admitted that the part about “murdering” her ex-boyfriend was harsh.
“Oh my God, after I said that, I was like, That was so crazy and harsh… I was just randomly slightly enraged,” she said in an interview.
Kill Bill, released in 2022, became SZA’s first-ever solo No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 around the period.
