Nigerian singer and songwriter Teniola Apata, known by the stage name Teni, has made some fascinating revelations ahead of her new album released on November 17, 2023.

The composer of Billionaire, early last week, dropped the single Malaika off the upcoming album which she calls Tears of the Sun.

Announcing the new project on her Facebook page, Teni said she was diagnosed with “a life-threatening throat infection” in July 2023 while recording her second album.

“After different bouts of temporary voice loss, doctors said I had to undergo a major operation or risk permanent voice loss,” she indicated in a Facebook reel showing her receiving treatment.

After several visits to the hospital, she recovered mildly in October 2023 without undergoing surgery. By November 2023, she made a full recovery and was back on stage.

On November 3, she unveiled the single Malaika which she has described as her “song of thanksgiving and praise to God for his mercy and grace.”

“They tried taking my voice and then my life but God showed up in his infinite mercy and grace,” the 30-year-old wrote, adding that the Tears of The Sun album is her story of “rebirth, growth, and perseverance.”

Her followers have wished her well as they await the content of the new album.

Maliaka has attracted positive feedback enjoying good airplay since its release. The video had accumulated over 500,000 views on YouTube in less than 24 hours after its premiere.

Teni has been on the music scene since 2016 with several recordings and awards under her belt but became more prominent for her single, Case released in 2018.

In February 2019, she was featured on YouTube Music’s Trending Artist on the Rise. In June 2019, she released a new single titled Power Rangers.

Teni released her debut Extended Play (EP) Billionaire in October 2019. She worked on other projects before releasing her Wondaland album in 2021.
