NBA YoungBoy has officially been sentenced in his federal gun case stemming from a 2020 incident in Louisiana. The 24-year-old rapper, born Kentrell Gaulden, received a 27-month federal prison sentence on Tuesday, December 10. His sentence will be followed by five years of probation, during which he must adhere to strict conditions, including bans on alcohol and drug use.

The Baton Rouge native has been credited for time served, meaning his prison time will likely be reduced to about a year. This sentencing marks the conclusion of a case that began in 2020 when YoungBoy was caught carrying firearms while filming a music video in his hometown. Authorities discovered a Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms 9mm firearm in his possession.

The case initially moved forward in Louisiana, but after YoungBoy agreed to plead guilty to firearms possession, the proceedings were transferred to Utah in August. This move came as he faced additional charges there related to drug fraud. Last month, YoungBoy reached a plea deal in the Utah case, admitting guilt to several charges, including identity fraud and forgery. The agreement reduced four felony charges to misdemeanors, sparing him further jail time but requiring him to pay a $25,000 fine.

The rapper’s legal troubles have spanned multiple states and jurisdictions, reflecting the complexity of his situation. Prosecutors noted that his cases involved overlapping state and federal systems, emphasizing the challenges of pursuing justice in such a context.

NBA YoungBoy’s legal woes began escalating with his April arrest in Utah, tied to a prescription drug fraud ring. Court documents revealed an elaborate scheme involving fraudulent prescriptions for Promethazine with Codeine, allegedly involving YoungBoy and his associates. He was also accused of impersonating a doctor to facilitate the operation, which led to the addition of more charges.

The controversial rapper, who has been under house arrest since 2021 for the gun case, has faced significant legal scrutiny throughout his career. While his sentencing marks an important chapter in his legal battles, it also offers a potential turning point for YoungBoy to rebuild his future once his time in federal custody concludes.
