Chris Brown has reached a major career milestone, claiming his 20th No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with his hit single Residuals.

The track soared to the top position on the chart dated December 7, marking it as the most-played song on U.S. mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations for November 22-28, according to data from Luminate.

‘Residuals’ ascended from the runner-up spot, gaining a 4% increase in weekly plays. It overtook GloRilla’s ‘TGIF,’ which had held the top spot for 10 consecutive weeks. This achievement marks Brown’s second chart-topping hit of 2024, following ‘Sensational,’ which topped the chart in March.

With his 20th No. 1, Brown ties Lil Wayne for the second-most No. 1s on this chart since its inception in 1992. The pair are only surpassed by Drake, who leads with 46 No. 1 hits. Here is a look at the artists with the most No. 1s on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart:

‘Residuals’ appears on the deluxe edition of Brown’s latest album, 11:11, and has quickly become a fan favorite. The song gained significant attention during Brown’s spring and summer tour, where it was a staple of his live performances. The growing interest in the track led to its debut on the Hot R&B Songs chart in April, before it was officially pushed to radio in August. In addition to its success on the airplay charts, ‘Residuals’ has earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance at the upcoming awards ceremony.

Chris Brown first topped the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart in December 2006 with ‘Shortie Like Mine’ alongside Bow Wow and Johnta Austin. His first No. 1 in a lead role came a year later with ‘Kiss Kiss,’ featuring T-Pain. Since then, Brown has consistently dominated the chart with hits across multiple collaborations and solo projects.
