After suffering a medical emergency last week, Bishop T.D. Jakes has gone public about his health.

In a video message to members of his church, he said he had undergone an “emergency surgery” and asked his followers to praise God as they were not planning “a funeral.”

“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle…I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit, had emergency surgery, and survived the surgery,” he stated in the video, thanking his followers and God for being alive.

“I’m grateful to God for his goodness and his mercy, and to not just our local church, but to the global community that follows this ministry,” the preacher stated.

Jakes added that he was taking time to rest and recover, per doctor’s orders, but did not provide details about his diagnosis.

“I’m in good spirits…I feel good, I’m in no pain, I’m in peace and tranquillity, and I want you to know that I can feel your prayers.”

“A special thank you to God and the medical professionals in our city whose speed and expertise were beyond exceptional,” he said.

Last week, his daughter, Sarah Jakes, provided an update on her father’s health after the preacher reportedly experienced a health emergency during his sermon on Sunday, November 24.

Reports indicate he was delivering a sermon at The Potter’s House Church in Dallas when his body started shaking suddenly, with many people rushing to help him.

Some videos went viral with people speculating that he may have had a stroke. However, Bishop Jakes’ has said in a social media post that her father was recovering well.

“…Obviously today could have been a tragic day. But it wasn’t by the mercy of God, by the grace of God. Bishop is doing well. He’s recovering well. He’s under medical care. He’s strong.

“…I’m so grateful that he’s already beginning to improve and I think it’s just a reminder even going into this holiday season week to love the people who you hold near and dear and just take the time to be grateful for all the people God’s given you,” she wrote.

Potter’s House also released a statement confirming that Bishop Jakes was stable after his “slight health incident” and was under the care of health professionals.
