R&B singer Khalid is opening up about his sexuality and has come out as gay.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) last Friday, Khalid confirmed he is gay, as he responded to an allegation made by an alleged ex-boyfriend, Hugo D. Almonte.
Despite the controversy surrounding his coming out on social media, the singer is affirming his happiness and self-acceptance.
Khalid captioned his post “Shared this on Instagram, so I’m gonna share this here too. Thank you.”
In the video, Khalid noted:
🏳️🌈!!! there y’all go. Next topic please lol,” Khalid initially wrote, using the LGBTQ pride flag emoji. When a fan asked for confirmation, he replied, “I am [gay]! And that’s okay.”
“I got outed and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”
According to an article on Rolling Stone, the singer’s posts came after an X user with the account @hugodalmonte accused an unnamed “gay R&B singer” of offering him drugs and attempting to frame him for breaking into his home.
Hugo, who happened to be an up-and-coming artist, shared a photo with Khalid alongside a string of accusations, claiming the singer tried to use his influence to silence him after their relationship ended.
Khalid’s responds was not directly addressing Almonte’s allegations but was responding to an X user who suggested his sexuality was obvious.
“I wasn’t hiding anything!” Khalid wrote. “It’s just none of your business.”
According to Rolling Stone, Almonte has issued a statement defending his actions, claiming he had been holding onto these accusations for five years before deciding to share them.
He alleged he has since received death threats and criticized those accusing him of seeking clout.
“It’s crazy that people said I was chasing clout when I’ve been silent about this for years,” he said.
However, Khalid’s team has yet to respond publicly or directly to the allegations.
Nevertheless, the R&B star has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow artists.
But as usual, social media is divided by the news on X. Below are what some X users are saying.
