Hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has faced fresh legal troubles. Atlanta-based author and entrepreneur DeWitt Gilmore is accusing Diddy of leading a violent car chase through New York City nearly three decades ago, marking yet another lawsuit against the music star in recent years.

According to USA Today, Gilmore’s federal filing indicates the incident allegedly occurred on a summer night in 1996. After leaving a nightclub and heading to his car, Gilmore recounts that Diddy and his associates approached him. What began as taunts and threats quickly escalated, Gilmore claims, when some members of Diddy’s entourage brandished firearms, causing a chaotic scene.

As Gilmore recalls, shots were allegedly fired as he and witnesses fled, spurring a high-speed chase through Manhattan’s dimly lit streets. In his statement to the court, Gilmore describes the experience as a terrifying escape from what he perceives as an attempted ambush. He claims he narrowly evaded danger, weaving through traffic to escape a potentially deadly confrontation.

In a notable twist, Gilmore explains that he was motivated to file this suit after reconnecting with a witness from that night, providing him with what he calls ‘new insight and testimonial evidence’ that might revive the old case.

According to Gilmore, this fresh testimony has renewed focus on the incident despite the significant time that has elapsed, allowing him to bypass the usual statute of limitations.

Seeking $5 million in damages, Gilmore cites emotional distress, physical harm, lost opportunities, and reputational damage. His allegations add to a complex legal landscape surrounding Diddy, who has recently faced other lawsuits and scrutiny.
