Hero Collections launched in November 2014, is a design-driven, Afrocentric lifestyle brand based in Ghana.

They make quality products and aim to empower people and encourage them to achieve greatness by backing these products with inspiring stories from around the world.

Founder James Attiogbe’s vision for the brand grew out of his obsession with superheroes. He felt an affinity with the fictional heroes he read about in comic books and saw in movies as a child as well as the ordinary people who defied all odds to achieve greatness in our world.

He is a fan of fantasy fiction, anime, and real-life historical figures. James considers design to be his 6th sense… his own superpower.

“Our Hero story didn’t begin with a formal business plan”, James noted.

In 2013, James was 6 months out of college and facing a job market that seemed based on connections, not the design talents, branding skills, or passions of a fledgling graduate from Accra.

After being turned down for many jobs, he made the desperate decision to start his own business. He found himself constantly brainstorming new apparel ideas that would allow him to fulfill his desire to inspire others to achieve greatness.

One day, while sketching and playing superhero movies in the background, it hit him: He would design and create clothing for real-life, everyday heroes to wear. Thus, Hero Collections was born. A collection of apparel, accessories, and electronics meant to inspire the wearer or user. The collection is based on a mix of modern-day African diaspora and traditional Ghanaian fashions and designs.

James and his handpicked team of ordinary people doing extraordinary things strongly believe in harnessing the power of business to achieve social change.

“Our products are both superhero and African African-themed. We represent a blend of urban and modern design, that is fused with African print fabrics. Each item is handcrafted on the streets of Accra, the heart of Ghana”, said James.

He continued, “At Hero Collections, we believe you are what you wear, so our products are designed with the wearer in mind. We design apparel we would and do wear ourselves. The Hero Collection vision is to become the choice brand for the youth and those who have created or received heroic levels of inspiration in their everyday lives. As Hero Collections marks its 10th anniversary, we’re celebrating more than just years – we’re celebrating a journey defined by purpose, passion, and resilience. Our journey has been guided by the belief that fashion can be a powerful tool for change, and we’re grateful for every person who has joined us on this mission. As we look to the future, we remain committed to innovation and storytelling. Hero Collections is just getting started – stay tuned for the next chapter!”
