Michael Jackson’s biopic release date has been moved back six months from its previously planned release date of April 18, 2025.
The announcement was made by Lionsgate stating that the film will hit theaters on Oct. 3, 2025, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This highly anticipated biopic stars the King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who plays his uncle, while Nia Long and Colman Domingo play Michael’s parents.
The biopic also has Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain as producers, Antoine Fuqua as the director, and a script by John Logan.
Michael Jackson’s biopic is expected to cover all aspects of Jackson’s life and career, including his legal issues.
According to Variety, the film’s trailer was aired in April at CinemaCon in Las Vegas as part of Lionsgate’s showcase to preview the movie to theater owners and it is said to have received a strong reaction.
In the preview, a voice is said to have attributed to that of his mother, Katherine Jackson, who could be heard telling her son,
“’There might be some people who think you’re different, and that’s going to make life a little harder for you.’ But you never like anyone else. Michael, you have a very special light—so make that light shine onto the world.’
Ahead of the film’s release, the film’s producer, Graham King, said the movie would be “an inside look at the most prolific artist who ever lived’ as ‘there are elements of drama, intrigue, and emotional states.”
Graham said he’s been working on this film for seven years and conducted hundreds of interviews in an effort to get the best insights for the forthcoming project.
Michael is garnering huge expectations from the studio.
Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television distribution, Jim Packer, is said to have told an audience at a symposium for the Gabelli Media & Entertainment Symposium that; “I think that’ll be the biggest movie we’ve ever had“.
Jim Packer also said that the hype was high for the forthcoming film, stating: “The buzz that we’re getting every time a photo gets released is kind of crazy”
