Pharrell Williams has incurred the wrath of some fans for appearing on a television set with sunglasses and a cap.
The producer and fashionista appeared on the November 1 episode of the Graham Norton Show to talk about his latest production, Piece By Piece.
Following the interaction, some fans took offense to his outlook on set and expressed their sentiments on X (formally Twitter).
“Why is Pharrell Williams wearing sunglasses on Graham Norton show……you’re embarrassing me,” a user wrote. “Lot of respect for Pharrell Williams as a musician, but I lose all interest when someone is wearing sunglasses on a show like this,” another added.
Others thought Pharrell appearing in sunglasses was “rude,” unless he had a medical reason. Some unconfirmed comments, however, indicated that the Happy musician had a condition called synesthesia— a neurological or psychological phenomenon whereby a particular sensory stimulus triggers a kind of sensation.
Pharrell continues to promote his Lego-animated film Piece by Piece, which arrived in cinemas last month. The project, according to producers, follows the rise of the prolific artiste and “recreates monumental moments in his life.”
The narrative captures Pharrell’s time in the group The Neptunes when he worked with the likes of Chad Hugo, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, and others.
Piece By Piece was directed by the acclaimed Morgan Neville with Pharrell Williams serving as an executive producer with the production company, which co-produced the movie.
In September this year, the musician left followers a bit disappointed after canceling his annual music festival, hours after Ticked had started selling.
The Something In the Water concept was planned to take place in October in Virginia. Some fans were said to have started buying early bird tickets before organizers said the show had been postponed to April 2025.
“Virginia doesn’t deserve better, Virginia deserves the best. So Something In The Water has to match that. It just isn’t ready yet. That’s why we have decided we must postpone this year’s [event]…This is not a Pharrell festival, this is the state of Virginia’s festival so it has to be the best,” a statement said.
