Award-winning Ghanaian-British actor, Peter Mensah, widely known as Oenomaus for his role in the widely popular 2010 series “Spartacus”, is a Hollywood star who has featured in several movies and TV series.

The 64-year-old actor, who is Ghanaian, can be considered one of the veteran actors in Hollywood who has paid his dues in his acting career.

Though the Spartacus Star is based mostly in the US and UK, he tries as much as possible to stay in touch with his roots by constantly visiting the land of his birth (Ghana). He was in Ghana some years ago to bury his father, Peter Osei Mensah who passed away in 2017.

Peter Mensah is also a martial artist who has been at it since he was 6 years old. He is also a former engineer who has worked in the oil and gas industry. He comes from an academic family.

Here are five movies Peter Mensah has played key roles in:

Avatar (2009): In the groundbreaking and epic science fiction film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron, Peter Mensah played Akwey, the character who is the clan leader of the Horse Clan of the Plains [and is witnessed fighting in the final battle on his Direhorse] in the 2007 Avatar movie.

300 (2007): In the 2006 revolutionary 300 movie directed by renowned movie director, Zack Snyder, Peter Mensah played the Persian messenger, who was a man who served as the voice of Xerxes in the movie.  The messenger character was a well-spoken individual who was sent ahead of the Persian armies to seek peaceful submission to the rule of his master. However, Leonidas of Sparta took offense to the messenger’s claim that his decision to accept or deny submission would be his last as king. The Spartan king kicked the messenger into the seemingly bottomless pit behind the Persian, sending him screaming to his death in the void below.

300: Rise of an Empire (2014): In the 2014 sequel movie, Peter Mensah again reprised his role as The Persian Messenger, playing the key character throughout the movie.

G.I. JOE: Snake Eyes (2021): This movie is an origin movie to the G.I. Joe franchise. Peter Mensah played the role of the legendary warrior, Blind Master who is a trainer and teacher for Snake Eyes.

The Devil Conspiracy (2022): Set in modern times, a satanic pharmaceutical biotech company plans to clone Jesus as a means of freeing the devil from his underworld prison. This action movie has Peter Mensah playing the Archangel, Michael, whose quest throughout the movie is to first Lucifer, chain him, and prevent him from coming back into the world to destroy it.

Spartacus (2010–2013): For this award-winning series, Peter Mensah plays Oenomaus, a central character in Spartacus. The Oenomaus character is the gladiator trainer in Batiatus’ Ludus, traditionally referred to only by the title “Doctore”. Peter Mensah played the role very well.
