Radric Delantic Davis, known professionally as Gucci Mane, is a rapper and record executive at 1017 Records.

This Atlantic Records-distributed label was founded in 2007 and has truly contributed its quota to hip-hop culture.

The label has gone through many phases since its inception.

The label was originally named 1017 Brick Squad and underwent rebranding in 2020 with the onboarding of new talent, including Pooh Sheisty, Big Scarr, Foogiano, Hotboy Wes, K Shiday, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, and Roboy.

1017 Records jump-started the mainstream careers of artistes like Waka Flocka Flame, OJ Da Juiceman, Young Thug, and Chief Keef, among others.

However, most of the artistes originally signed to the label have since been dropped, sent to prison, or passed away.

One may say this might have contributed to Gucci Mane’s recent decision.

In an Instagram post, the rapper announced that he would release every artiste with the exception of Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano.

Gucci Mane provided this update in an Instagram clip while driving around in his car and speaking about the changes.

He addressed several issues that have contributed to his decision, saying:

“What’s up, y’all? Listen, I wanted to make this announcement on 1017 yesterday,” he told the camera before delving into the financial context that made him arrive at the decision. I just saw my statement and my [profits and losses] with all my artists. You know, it’s a whole bunch of shakeups and a whole sh*t show in the industry right now. When I look at my [profits and losses] and me being a businessman, I think I’m going to have to release almost all my artists, except Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano.”

This is a decision I didn’t want to make. I thought about it; you know what I’m saying? I can keep all of them under the contract. But I said, Hey, f**k it. Let’s just make the unselfish decision and, you know, let them take their talents elsewhere. So today, you know what I’m saying? I already reached out to all of my artists; you know what I’m saying? To their lawyers and whatever, and let them know that they’re free to take their talents elsewhere. And I’m still looking for new talent to pair up with Pooh and Foo. That’s where I’m going to put my focus. I just wish them the best, and I just wanted to let everybody know of that ’cause hey, that’s where we’re at.”
