Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, has canceled his scheduled trips to the US, Europe, and the UK due to some personal health concerns.
He had planned to take his New World Tour to selected cities in those countries, but the singer has cited some medical reasons why he is unable to push it through.
The postponement comes after he reportedly canceled a show in Azirion on August 24 due to technical issues, and another event was supposed to take off on September 8.
In a post on X (formally Twitter), he wrote, “Hey everyone, unfortunately, I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. Hold onto your tickets.”
He added: “All tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.”
In a related post on October 4, Donald Glover said he discovered the health issues after his New Orleans show.
“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent…After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”
“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously. With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase,” he explained.
The This is America composer, early this year, released a new single ahead of the official release of his new album. The melody called In The Night featured two female performers, English singer, Jorja Smith, and Ghanaian-American talent, Amaarae.
It was made public Tuesday, July 16, ahead of his sixth studio album, Bando Stone & The New World, which came out on July 19. The project, described as his “most eclectic material,” was said to be the last to be released under his moniker Childish Gambino.
Donald Glover had previously dropped the lead single Lithonia off the album in the preceding months. The song blends a bit of punk and rock genres. In The Night was also rated as a dance track that incorporates some traits of dancehall.
Both Amaarae and Jorja Smith brought on their exceptional vocal prowess on the record.
