Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial continues to make history. It became the longest-running trial in Georgia’s state history, and now it’s setting another unprecedented record.

On Wednesday, October 2, legal commentator The Blvck Law Student noted that YSL defense attorneys have filed a staggering 45 motions for mistrial since the trial began – a record number for any case – all of which have been denied. This is the first time such an extensive series of mistrial requests have occurred without a single one being granted.

The most recent motion for mistrial was filed by Young Thug’s legal team earlier this week but was swiftly denied by Judge Paige Reese Whitaker. While this represented a setback for the embattled rapper, Judge Whitaker didn’t hold back her frustration with the prosecution, which has been presenting its case against the Atlanta-based star, accusing him of leading a dangerous street gang.

During a tense moment captured on the court’s live stream, Judge Whitaker expressed concerns over how the prosecution has handled the case. Although she stopped short of outright accusing them of intentionally mishandling evidence, she criticized their repeated failure to present information clearly and organizedly. Whitaker pointed out that this has only served to prolong an already drawn-out trial.

Despite the ongoing turmoil, Judge Whitaker once again denied the defense’s request for a mistrial after taking a brief recess to review the motion.

Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, has been on trial since November 2023, facing charges that tie him to the alleged Young Slime Life (YSL) gang. His trial, marked by its length and legal drama, shows no sign of slowing down as the legal battle rages on.

One of the more dramatic elements of the trial has centered on a key witness, Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland. Granted immunity in exchange for his testimony, Copeland has caused waves with his candid admissions about lying during prior statements and his open frustration with the prosecution. At one point, he even dismissed his own attorney while on the witness stand.
