Rapper DaBaby has reached a settlement with Los Angeles homeowner Gary Pagar, concluding a civil lawsuit that accused the artist of assaulting him during a racially charged altercation in 2020.
The lawsuit was linked to the filming of a music video for rapper Stunna 4 Vegas’s song ‘Play You Lay,’ which DaBaby directed at Pagar’s property.
The incident took place in December 2020 when Pagar, who had rented out his Los Angeles estate for the video shoot, arrived to find more than 40 people on the set, despite an agreement that no more than 12 individuals would be present.
Concerned about the violation of their contract, Pagar attempted to shut down the shoot. That’s when tensions escalated, and a physical confrontation ensued between the two.
Pagar claimed DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, attacked him by punching, spitting, shoving, and threatening him. The altercation, captured on camera, reportedly left Pagar with a knocked-out tooth.
Additionally, the homeowner alleged that kitchenware was stolen, and property damage occurred during the filming. DaBaby, originally from North Carolina, denied the more severe allegations but admitted the incident turned physical.
The situation gained further controversy when DaBaby claimed Pagar, who is white, used a racial slur during the confrontation. Pagar admitted to using the N-word but argued that it wasn’t relevant to the legal dispute.
DaBaby posted a video on social media of Pagar using the slur, sparking public outrage and reigniting discussions about the rapper’s character.
While DaBaby has already served jail time in connection to this criminal case, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in July 2023.
As part of his sentence, DaBaby received one year of probation, paid $10,000 in restitution, and was ordered to stay 100 yards away from Pagar. The rapper is also prohibited from possessing firearms or deadly weapons for the duration of his probation.
