Meek Mill recently addressed his relationship with Drake and Kendrick Lamar, sparking renewed interest in the longstanding tension between the two rap giants.
The Philly rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, September 19, to share his thoughts during a Q&A session. He quickly turned the spotlight on his stance regarding the highly publicized beef between The 6 God and K.Dot.
When asked to name his top three West Coast rappers, Meek responded, ‘Tupac, Snoop, Kendrick, no order.’ This mention of Kendrick, who is known for his rivalry with Drake, led to fans questioning Meek’s allegiances.
One fan suggested that Kendrick wasn’t Meek’s favorite, prompting the rapper to respond by defending his stance. He clarified that while Kendrick may not be his favorite, he sees him as one of the most lyrically effective rappers from the West Coast.
However, the real stir came when another fan asked whether Kendrick made the list due to the ongoing feud between him and Drake. Meek Mill quickly shut down any suggestions of bias, stating that he has no involvement in their rivalry. He emphasized his respect for both artists, noting that he enjoys music from Kendrick and Drake, keeping all their diss tracks on his personal playlist.
DJ Akademiks points to Meek Mill over Drake and Kendrick ‘beef’
Despite Meek’s clarification, not all believe he’s uninvolved in the Drake-Kendrick drama. In May, media personality DJ Akademiks reignited the debate, suggesting that Meek Mill played a key role in sparking the tension between the two heavyweights.
During an appearance on the Full Send podcast, Akademiks claimed that Meek’s failure to take down Drake during their 2015 feud gave the Toronto rapper the confidence to engage with Kendrick.
Akademiks argued that Meek Mill’s missteps, particularly his infamous tweet accusing Drake of using ghostwriters, only fueled Drake’s rise.
According to the outspoken commentator, Meek’s mishandling of the situation laid the groundwork for the ongoing friction between Drake and Kendrick, leaving some fans to wonder how different the landscape of hip-hop might have been if Meek had capitalized on his advantage at the time.
