Rap legend Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has spent years enjoying the height of fame and luxury, is facing a starkly different reality.
Since Tuesday, September 17, Diddy, who faced a boycott, has been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, after being arrested and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
The music mogul has twice been denied bail, with a judge citing him as a “danger” to the community. Until his trial begins, Diddy will remain in this notorious federal jail, known for its troubling history and harsh conditions.
MDC Brooklyn has been described by many as “hell on earth” due to its dangerous and inhumane environment, which has been plagued by suicides, murders, food contamination, and violence.
These factors played a major role in his legal team’s argument for bond, though their efforts to secure his release have been unsuccessful.
The jail has housed other high-profile inmates, including R. Kelly, Fetty Wap, and Ghislaine Maxwell.
However, Diddy’s celebrity status and the nature of the allegations against him have led to his placement in the Special Housing Unit (SHU), a more isolated section of the prison. Despite this, his conditions remain far from comfortable.
Diddy’s new life in the SHU includes limited privileges—three showers per week, one hour of recreation per day, and three meals eaten alone in his cell. Visits from friends and family will be allowed, but these interactions may be brief and infrequent due to the challenges of accessing inmates in this part of the facility.
Diddy placed on suicide watch
Meanwhile, Diddy has reportedly been placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial at Brooklyn’s MDC.
The decision comes as a precautionary measure, with concerns surrounding his mental state following his arrest on serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution.
