Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, a business mogul and musician, has been arrested in New York. Before his arrest, the rapper had been faced with several sexual assault lawsuits and a federal investigation into human trafficking.
Homeland Security Investigations detained Combs after he was arrested on Monday night at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan. As it stands, the charges and details surrounding Combs’ arrest are still unclear.
The Department of Homeland Security’s primary investigative division, HSI, is in charge of looking into transnational threats and crimes, including drug smuggling, terrorism, human trafficking, and other organized criminal activities.
According to his lawyer, Diddy has been in New York since last week. There had been continuous talks about his surrender, and on Monday the grand jury decided to indict him.
According to Diddy’s lawyer, the artist “voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges” and has been participating in the investigation that resulted in the indictment. His team still maintains that he is innocent and has “nothing to hide.”
Combs was the focus of a months-long investigation into sex trafficking by the Homeland Security Investigations department earlier this year, which resulted in the singer’s houses in Miami and Los Angeles being dramatically searched in March.
Combs has been the target of ten lawsuits since last November, nine of which specifically accuse him of sexual assault.
