Legendary performer Stevie Wonder has announced a new single titled Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart? The song arrived on Friday, August 30.

The acoustic rendition is described, more or less, as a composition calling for unity, as he sings in the hook: “Can we fix our nation’s broken heart?… Are we brave enough to try?”

The song is not considered political but is said to be timely as it comes ahead of the US Presidential elections scheduled for November.

Stevie Wonder took the stage on the third night of the Democratic National Convention early in August and made some powerful remarks for the audience. He also performed the song Higher Ground, off his 1973 album, Innervisions at the event.

“This is a moment to tell your children where you were and what you did…When we stand between history’s pain and tomorrow’s promises, we must choose courage and complacency,” he stated when he mounted the stage.

Mr Wonder is hailed for standing up against injustices throughout his career and has always spoken about how the world ought to be a better place.

“I keep thinking about how we can make the world better…I’m in this place where the more I’m seeing things like people dying in this pandemic, killings amid Black Lives Matter, social media negativity, anger … the more I’m a believer that respect is an action word and so is love.

“It’s about not letting anybody steal your happiness or take your joy away. The driving force for me has to always be the goodness in our hearts,” he had stated in an interview.

In May this year, Stevie Wonder secured Ghanaian citizenship upon his visit to the country. The honor, conferred on him on in Accra on Monday, May 13, 2024, coincided with his 74th birthday.

Pictures of the singer at the Jubilee House, the Seat of the President, appeared online as he was decorated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He was treated to a warm cultural display upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, where he was seen playing the local drum together with the performers.

In February 2021, Steve Wonder, known for top hits like Happy Birthday spoke to celebrated show host, Oprah Winfrey, about his decision to relocate to Ghana, due to the “political turmoil” in the United States.
