A teaser trailer has been released for “The Six Triple Eight”, a Netflix biopic about the first and only Black women to serve overseas in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II.
Tyler Perry, the director and writer of the upcoming WWII film based the scenario on Kevin M. Hymel’s article “Fighting a Two-Front War,” which appeared in Sovereign Media’s WWII History Magazine.
Kerry Washington plays the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion’s commanding officer, Major Charity Adams, in the film.
Major Charity Adams was the first Black woman commissioned as an officer in the Women’s Army Corps.
In addition to Washington, the cast also includes: Jay Reeves, Jeffery Johnson, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, and Jeanté Godlock.

In a tweet sharing the teaser, Perry wrote, “You have no idea what it means to me to have been given the grace and the blessing to be able to tell THIS story! Every detail is dedicated to the memory of the 855 black women and women of color of the Six Triple Eight. When America needed hope, they delivered!”

According to the synopsis, the movie was “inspired by the first and only unit of color in the Women’s Army Corps to serve overseas during World War II.”
They were dedicated to serving their country with honor and distinction despite encountering sexism, racism, and difficult working conditions.
With a remarkable aim and a shared will, these unseen individuals broke down walls and brought hope.
Netflix will start streaming The Six Triple Eight on December 20 after it opens in a few cinemas on December 6.
