Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams has passed away at age 36 from injuries he reportedly suffered at a construction site, sources say.
Spectrum News’ Jon Scott first reported the death on X, formerly Twitter, on September 5, saying “multiple sources have confirmed to me that former Syracuse and Bills WR Mike Williams has passed away following injuries suffered during an accident while working at a construction site.”
At Syracuse University, William played football, scoring 20 touchdowns from 2006 to 2009.
According to Spectrum News, he was drafted in 2010 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was named to the Pro Football Writers of America NFL All-Rookie Team after scoring 11 touchdowns that year. He would go on to play for his hometown Bills in 2014.
Tributes have trickled in for the late NFL wide receiver. Former NFL player Gerald McCoy wrote on X,
“Dang man hurts my heart seeing the news of my former teammate and Buccaneers 2010 draft class brother Mike Williams. Always great energy, brought joy and laughter to the locker room.”
