Ice Spice has opened up about her experience flying on Drake’s private jet and clarified the nature of their relationship.
In a personality profile with Rolling Stone, she gave fans a glimpse into the dynamics between her and the Canadian superstar.
Ice Spice, who gained massive popularity with her breakout hit Munch (Feelin’ U), shared her excitement about the unexpected invitation. She recounted how surreal it was to be flown out by Drake, describing the experience as a “gag” moment.
Despite the awe of seeing him in such a casual setting with numerous people around, the Billboard honouree quickly realized that this gesture did not mean they were close friends.
The rapper expressed her hopes of collaborating with Drake in the future. However, she emphasized that their interactions have been friendly but not particularly close. She mentioned that Drake is excited about her upcoming project, Y2K!, but they never developed a deep friendship.
Ice Spice also touched upon the longstanding tension between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, noting that she appreciates the competitive nature of their rivalry as a music lover. She refused to take sides, instead admiring the artistry involved.
Their relationship has had its ups and downs, with Drake unfollowing and then refollowing Ice Spice on Instagram in February 2023 after their initial meeting in Toronto. Their first encounter in August 2022 was a significant moment for Ice Spice, who was invited to Drake’s OVO Fest after catching his attention with her music. Fans spotted her in the crowd, marking the beginning of their public association.
Reflecting on her time with Drake, she described him as kind and respectful. Their meeting at OVO Fest was particularly thrilling, as it was Drake’s first performance in Toronto in several years, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Despite these positive interactions, tensions surfaced when Drake seemingly took a jab at Ice Spice in his song “BackOutsideBoyz” from the album “Her Loss” with 21 Savage. The line, “She a 10 tryna rap, it’s good on mute,” appeared to be directed at her. Ice Spice responded lightheartedly on Twitter, embracing the compliment of being a “10.”
Months later, in an interview with The New York Times, Ice Spice dismissed rumors of a rift, stating that they had spoken several times since the incident and reaffirming that there was no bad blood between them.
