NBA YoungBoy’s fans showed unwavering support during his online court hearing this week, though their enthusiasm did little to influence the legal proceedings.
On Monday, July 22, the rapper appeared before a Utah judge via WebEx video conference. However, the session ended without any significant developments due to his lawyer’s tardiness. The judge was forced to reschedule the arraignment for August 19.
The delay occurred when YoungBoy’s lawyer arrived late, citing a doctor’s appointment. By that time, the court had already postponed the proceedings. In the meantime, a number of the rapper’s supporters flooded the virtual courtroom, vocally expressing their support with chants of “Free YB.” Unfortunately, by the time they made their appearance, YoungBoy had already left the courtroom.
Judge Spencer Walsh addressed the fans, informing them that the case had been called and the rapper was no longer present. Despite the attempt to maintain order, the fervent support from YoungBoy’s fan base highlighted the ongoing public interest in his legal troubles.
YoungBoy faces a series of serious charges that began in April, including 63 counts related to identity fraud, forgery, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Additional charges, reported in early May, include possession of a firearm by a restricted person and several counts of obtaining prescriptions without authorization.
According to the affidavit, the rapper allegedly orchestrated a scheme involving fraudulent prescription calls. The scheme involved impersonating a doctor and using fake patient details to obtain prescription drugs, specifically Promethazine with Codeine. The use of the word “axed” instead of “asked” in one instance raised suspicions about the authenticity of the prescriptions.
Following his arrest, YoungBoy’s bail was set at $100,000. Although he managed to post bail, he was subsequently booked into another Utah jail where bail is not an option.
